WILMINGTON, Ohio β€” Wilmington Police Chief Duane Weyand has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of investigations and a review of internal procedures, Mayor John Stanforth announced Wednesday.

Weyand’s placement on leave comes as four separate investigations are underway involving two current officers, a former officer and an administrative assistant, according to the announcement on the city’s website.

“The city of Wilmington takes all allegations of misconduct against employees very seriously, which is why we have sought independent investigations into allegations against our officers and staff,” Stanforth said in a written statement.

The investigations are related to allegations of misconduct involving officers Josh Riley and Anthony Mitchell, former officer Jerry Popp and the department’s administrative assistant, Anna Collins, according to Stanforth. Riley, Mitchell and Collins have all been placed on administrative leave.

“The city has further been advised by legal counsel not to discuss specific allegations against employees until the completion of investigations,” the announcement on the city’s website states.

Sgt. Ron Cravens has been appointed acting chief, according to Stanforth.

“We depend on our police department to help provide a safe environment for the community, and the city is committed to protecting the integrity of our department and the faith and trust that our citizens place in it,” Stanforth said.
