Gaffney cop quits after alleged use-of-force incident at jail

GAFFNEY, SC (WSPA)— The state is investigating whether a former Gaffney Police Officer used excessive force on a suspect in handcuffs, according to the Gaffney Ledger.

Earlier this month, Officer Billy Hyatt arrested Joshua Rankin for a domestic incident.

Hyatt’s report said Rankin made threats toward him, jerked away, falling face first into a wall.

Rankin had to go to the hospital.

Hyatt was suspended, but later resigned.
