A regular feature of Black Rock Legal Defense Fund is highlighting the most egregious instances of police misconduct. Incidents that make it on to the blog should be considered the most outrageous violations of ethics, morality, judgement and/or public trust. The legal standard of negligence,

a) that the party alleged to be negligent had a duty to the injured party-specifically to the one injured or to the general public,

b) that the defendant’s action (or failure to act) was negligent-not what a reasonably prudent person would have done,

c) that the damages were caused (“proximately caused”) by the negligence.

is generally applied when determining which events are highlighted. While BRLDF issues criticism, on occasion in a harsh fashion, this should not be misconstrued to mean that the organization advocates or approves action via any method other than established and non-violent.

It is a simple fact that law enforcement is necessary in order for a civilized, modern society to function. Every day, brave men and women hit the street to maintain order. It can be difficult, usually underappreciated, and the overwhelming majority are decent, hard working folks. Every day, police officers go above and beyond to serve the public, and they deserve recognition.

Black Rock Legal Defense Fund encourages the support of our hardworking law enforcement officers, so please donate to the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation, linked to below.
