A veteran San Jose Police officer was arrested Monday on suspicion of stealing marijuana while answering a domestic violence call, police said.

Officer Julio Morales, 49, who has been with the San Jose Department for 21 years, was arrested on suspicion of petty theft, a misdemeanor, and released, police said.

Morales had been on paid administrative leave since an internal administrative investigation on Feb. 4 discovered that he stole the marijuana in November 2016 while investigating a domestic violence incident, police said. An ensuing criminal investigation led to his arrest.
