A Lowndes County deputy is facing an assault charge after he’s accused of physically attacking a man in court.
Sententta Lawrence of Collerine said her 20 year old son Tyanis was assaulted by Chief Deputy Chris West in the courtroom of the Lowndes County Courthouse back in May.
Lawrence said her son signed a warrant against West Wednesday — and now he’s facing a 3rd degree assault charge.
“Officer West swung at him, he hit him side the head.” she said.
“He picked my son up and threw him across the banister onto the floor. When they picked him up off the floor he looked at me, my baby nose was bleeding.”
Montgomery attorney Jacob Dubin is representing West in the case and issued this statement.
“There are two sides to every story and we expect that after this we will be fully vindicated.”
The case is set to go to trial next month.
