Off-duty Milwaukee officer arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after hitting squad car

An off-duty Milwaukee police officer was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after she rear-ended a squad car over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

The squad car was stopped at a red light at N. 76th St. and W. Florist Ave. about 4:20 p.m. Saturday when it was hit by a car driven by a 48-year-old woman who is a 22-year department veteran, according to a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department

The woman was arrested and has been suspended from the department. One officer in the squad car, a 45-year-old man, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to police. The off-duty officer was arrested on a tentative charge of operating while intoxicated, police said.
