News 4 has learned of allegations that a police officer had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

The family of that teen reached out to News 4 demanding to know why he is not in jail.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms that a Troy, Missouri police officer is under investigation. We have also learned that the officer is no longer policing the streets.

However, he has not been charged so News 4 will not publicly identify him.

The family’s identity has also been concealed to protect the teen.

“It wasn’t her fault. He violated her,” said a close family member, who spoke exclusively to KMOV Investigative Reporter Lauren Trager.

The woman is heartbroken after learning of the relationship between an under-aged family member and a Troy, Missouri police officer.

“It went on for over a year and yes, it did turn physical,” the close family member said.

The officer allegedly met the teen at her job. Over time, according to the girl, he had sex with her on at least four occasions.

“She thought she was in love, because of course, the officer kept saying I love you, I love you, I love you,” the family member said.

She says it was very clear to the officer that the girl was a minor.

“Whenever she turned 16, he took her out to eat and gave her a nice present for her 16th birthday,” she said.

Troy Police confirm they received information about inappropriate conduct of one of the officers at the end of June. They turned the case over to Highway Patrol. That department said they are investigating a Troy officer for alleged sex offenses.

“They’ve gone through the training, they arrest people and yet they’re doing it, and they’re getting away with it, it’s just not right, it’s not right,” said

A statement from Troy Police says they have zero tolerance for these types of incidents.

The officer resigned on July 6th.

Still, the family member wants to know why charges haven’t been filed.

“I want him to go to jail. I want him to serve the time any other pedophile should serve. There’s no reason he should be any different.”

Ultimately, once Highway Patrol is done investigating, it will be up to the prosecutor to decide if charges will be filed.

We reached out to the officer, but haven’t heard back for his comment.

We’ll be checking in daily with the Lincoln County Prosecutor’s office.
